About Toto
The band Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also highly acclaimed studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. Taking their name from the Latin word that means "all inclusive," the group was determined to explore all styles of music.
Toto's third release, Turn Back, was an unfulfilling success in 1981. However they came back with their fourth album, Isolation, which contained two hit songs including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour made them a household name around the world.
After a short hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. It is a departure from the ballads of their previous albums and includes some heavy rock. This album was their first to go platinum in North America.
In the course of recording the fifth album the group loses their manager and faces financial difficulties. They decide to change their name and record a new album with a new producer. The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.
In 1999, the band release Mindfields and begins an extensive tour across the globe. After several weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993. The album features a cover of Weezer’s song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's performance in Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring band includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest, as well as keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

The next year, Toto toured together with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. This was the last time all of Toto's original members appeared on stage at once. After that, the group was again disbanded. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to benefit the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in 31 years that all of Toto's founding members performed together. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
